What have you already tried to solve the problem?
I've tried reinstalling the game, making sure the registry keys were cleared out, disabling my antivirus incase of false positives, running the installer as admin, and I always get this crash message when I attempt to launch Vanilla BotF or the ECM mod. I've tried installing on my secondary hdd and I've had no luck. The pc I'm attempting this on, is an ASUS RoG Laptop with the latest drivers and windows updates.

Re: Games/mods will not launch
Hi timelord3,
sorry you are having issues, and thank you for your detailed report.
your crash log was the most helpful.
Is the stbof.res at the location listed in crash log? "C:\botf\STBOF.RES". The crash log should have read "C:\botf\vanilla\STBOF.RES" if default install path was used.
So it sounds like an install path is the problem. So you should check registries and stbof.ini for proper/matching install path.

Re: Games/mods will not launch
I'm using default options in the installer as a means of troubleshooting, and also running as admin/set exclusions in Windows Defender.
I just tried the change to the ini file and made it c:/botf/vanilla and got this crash log

However I don't believe the installer is patching stbof.res. I had a friend install it and work fine for him. In the ECM mod my stbof.res file is 63,883KB in size and his is 144,864KB in size. He also has the 1920x1080 mod installed as well. The Ultimate Editor wont open the stbof.res file because it can't find race.rst.
edit: in the registry install paths appear correct Star Trek:Botf is c:/botf/vanilla, Star Trek:DX is c:/botf/tools, and Star Trek:ECM is c:/botf/ECM
edit 2, Electric Boog-a-loo: I'm also using DxWnd to launch the program

Re: Games/mods will not launch
if comfortable try this
1. uninstall and start fresh
2. run installer and install "DxWnd and vanilla" use default options for testing.
3. leave the final screen of the installer open. "Before you click the "finish" button"
4. navigate to C:\Users\"current user"\AppData\Local\Temp\is-NDMVN.tmp\vanilla (note; folder name is random. "is-NDMVN.tmp")
5. look for file "MOD.BAT" and run/double click this bat file. This will rerun the commands to add files to the stbof.res and move other files.
You should see a command prompt pop up for a few seconds it should look like this

Re: Games/mods will not launch
I tried that and it didn't work, so I did the only sane thing I could think of. I re-installed windows. I'm happy to report it works now. Thank you for all your help

Re: Games/mods will not launch
any info might be helpful, how did it not work? was file not found or would not execute?
that was extreme, but glad it is working now
Re: Games/mods will not launch
the batch file ran, as in the cmd window opened up ever so briefly and then closed. No changes were made to stbof.res.
I'm thinking I might have had some malformed update process and with reinstalling windows insured that everything was fresh.
