Canon game star map

Post by toffeeblue »

Would it be possible in Supremacy to create a cannon Map?

Hey toffeeblue
That's the intention, yes.
We already have the map in excel format, we could really use a map editor to implement it though.
If someone volunteers to either make such an editor or edit a savegame, we'd really appreciate it!

I'm enjoying it. its a nice update to BOTF.

The starbase crash is a bit annoying.

The inability to build previous technology tiers of ships (e.g. Mirandas, Excelsiors etc) at higher technology tiers is abit annoying as its non canon

I'd like that implemented like Ultimate Dominion Mod on BOTF

Save game other than auto does not seem to work

But its otherwise really good.

With a canon map I'll probably exclusively play it over BOTF

That's really good to hear!!

The station Cancel button crash has been fixed for the next release. I'll probably upload a new build this monday.

Notice that even though you cannot build one ship type when you get its upgrade, you can still keep those you already built (and with their experience). Ship upgrade will not be automatic. You will be able to choose whether to upgrade or not.
If the new designs wouldn't obsolete previous designs, the ship build list would become very confusing, at some point in the game. Most of those designs you wouldn't even want to build, at least most of the time. Notice however that you can edit the game's object database and either remove all obsoletions for the ships, or make ship types only obsolete designs that are 2 tiers lower or something. You can even do this only for say military ships.

The savegame problem is a nasty one, yes. I assume you're running 64-bit Win10? There's a few problems related to this, listed here:
viewtopic.php?f=300&t=3613
The game does produce an autosave, so you can use that until the problem is fixed.
I've tried implementing a fast save hotkey from the galaxy screen, but have not been successful so far. I'll keep at it though.

Thanks for your support!
Hopefully we can get a canon map done.

Yes 64 bit Win 10 Pro.

I'll want the option to continue building mirandas and excelsiors etc in my fleet as they're workhorse ships even when Defiants and Sovereigns are available. If its possible?

I'd like to be able to build from any ship - much like in the Dominion War. When feds were uprating Excelsiors etc.

Upgrading/retrofitting yes, not building new ones. They built around 20, maybe as many as 30, in 70~80 years.

But like I said, this is easily modded. You can even add a new design, an Excelsior upgrade.
If you need any help modding the obsoletion paths, just LMK.

You would like to have this simply for "fluff" reasons, or is there a gameplay related reason for this request? It might have consequences relating to shipyard upgrades (shipbuilding output), like spamming cheap Excelsiors instead of building Sovereigns - which also have lower maintenance. Obviously they also have lower stats. (This would probably be useful to test how balanced combat actually is)

A canon map would be wonderful. It is now impossible to encounter the 'core minors' of the Federation in one game. The possibility to unite those members of the Federation family would give Supremacy an even more Trek feeling than it already has.

Well, technically, you could edit the Civilizations.xml file and edit out a bunch of minors so that it would ensure those core minors would be spawned. But it's not really a solution, I know. We really need a map editor for this.

I may try something when I get some free time, after the new year. Been kind of busy these days.

Just so you know, I'm playing the latest test version.

Still following this. See my canon star map and/or building my fluff fleet (mirandas and excelsiors etc) posts above from a year ago!

having played ST BOTF for 20 years :)

Hi toffeeblue, glad you're still around!

Like mentioned above, I'll see what I can do about a canon starmap. It might take a while though.
But notice that such a map has a very low replayability value, as you'll always know where everyone is...

As for the ship obsoletions thing, like I mentioned a year ago, you can easily mod the game to accomplish that. If you need help with that, LMK.
