Phaser/Ship slots/Number of them all

Please clarify me:

I've checked this post here:

When I add/change a ship to stbof.res I go to EDIT/GRAPHICS/ADDREMOVE SHIPS. There I find the list containing all the ships and monsters in the game. If I anderstood correctly I can have a total of 74 of them. These are the entries with 3 letters. If I rename them to 2 letters one entry opens up a kind of "son" slot where I can place another ship in. For me to do that I ***NEED*** both models, the one in the main entry and the other in the "son" entry, to use the same "phaser slot" number and to have the same % of size. This entry is called a ship slot?

The name at each model that reads "phaser slot" is referent to what exactly? The number of hard points in the model? How can I change this number, if I can change it at all? I've checked some posts but didnt anderstand exactly if that can be done or how.

The list of ships in use by the game at EDIT/SHIPS/SHIP STATS is 255? These are called?

That would help me anderstand a bit better these posts. Thanks!

that post is very old and not used by ship packs for "add and remove ships" with UE.

so it would be best if you study this tutorial and ask question pertaining to that tutorial.

that would be a "shared" ship slot. example main entry would use "H1" as prefix and son slot would use "H1_"

to gain more slots you could also use the "TMP" slot for all ships that have exact same phasers and scale.

Oh, I did check that tutorial more than once.

What Im trying to anderstand is who is called what.

In the end all leads to the same question: How did you made all ships to have 8 phaser slots in UDM?

I created/converted every ship used in UDM. This allowed me to scale all models to exact/proper size, also all models used same scale and phaser info.

Aw, thats a real pity... :sad:

I want to give the ferengi some love since they are so despised when people compare them to the dominion. I tried to do this:

I made a shippack with all the vanilla ships. Then I imported the ferengi war cruiser to the TMP slot. I changed its original texture for the "new" ship and made its size a bit larger. After that I created a i_xxx270.tga file for it and added it to the game. I can see the ship in the game, I can check it at the build list and I can build it. I even tested it in a real fight and it worked.

But, for some arcane reason, the game crashes around the 30th turn. I have no idea of the whys... When I removed the ship from the ship list the crash didnt happen. I wonder if its related to that TMP slot... Any idea?

when ever changing ship list you must start a new game

I did! Specially after the crashes begun. I wonder if it have anything to do with moving the ship name up for putting them in alphabetical order...

Anyway, I reversed the game back to the original version, put in some patches and Im going to just include the ship and see what happens.
