Hello!
I have a Lenovo ideapad 330S with Windows 10 1909.
Under 1903, BOTF was working without issues with a few of the mods I was trying and it's neat to play this game again. However, after updating to 1909, suddenly it CTD when it's past the Empire Intro FMV and it's begins Loading Game. I was running it Windowed before in DxWnd and even running both DxWnd and Trek.exe as admin, I still can't play the game anymore.
I even uninstalled every mod and tools, reinstalled with tools and just ECM mod (using the same installer I downloaded in September), and it still CTD.
Broadcasting Distress Call on all known frequencies.

if you could check crash.log from install folder
also check event viewer for application log for how to find log see post below
viewtopic.php?f=303&t=3852#p50771
I have not installed 1909 yet, now I am afraid to. I might have to do that tomorrow.
edit; I just checked my laptop and it has 1909 and game plays fine.
if you find a solution please post it.

Re: BOTF All in One installer 1.0.1 (Released 6-12-2017)
The crash.log file remains empty. It appears to be a Windows issue only as there are multiple Event Log Error entries for each time it CTD when Loading Game. Event ID 1000 in Windows mentions to run a system file check, but that came back 100% valid.

Re: BOTF All in One installer 1.0.1 (Released 6-12-2017)
logs was no help this time.
only thing I can suggest would be to install directX redist
install DirectX 9 redist this does not change your current version of directx. It will only add any files that is not on your system.
maybe when 1909 was install those files did not transfer to new windows folder.

The procedure had no effect. Trek.exe still faults when Game Loading...
It's like trying to play the original CD without the Win10 changes.
I don't know what else to do

when you re-installed did you install tools first? this will setup how dxwnd configures on all mods after tools is installed.
how are you starting the game?
1. desktop shortcut (if check and post "target") ECM should be C:\botf\tools\dxwnd_Fullscreen\dxwnd.exe /R:2 if not similar use option 2
2. opening dxwnd and selecting mod from the list
3. running trek.exe from install folder (this runs game without dxwnd)

Re: BOTF All in One installer 1.0.1 (Released 6-12-2017)
hi everyone, i have downloaded this multi installer, now basically randomly it crashes botf to desktop.
It can be turn 1 when you select a system to go into it (build area), other times it can be randomly crashing on turns.
If i continue the turn by reloading the game it crashes exact same spot.
I have done all the usual, install multi as admin, trek.exe as admin, changed directory from c:botf to programs/86, ran windowed instead of full screen.
Did the installer just vanilla and tools and same thing on vanilla game.
Theres no error reports on DxWnd.
Im suffering most issues when running the Galaxy Mod. Iv tried reinstall using 800x600 and its the same so its not a screen resolution issue. Tried the cosmetic 1080 too and it does it on that, so im assuming its more down to the game itself.
Really baffling me now because iv had this running fine in past. Wondering if its a 64 bit issue.
My system is:
Windows 10 x64 latest build
i7-8700k 3.70ghz
32gb 3700mhz
2x 512gb m.2 hdd
GTX 1080ti 11gb GPU

You also might try to re-download All in One installer and checking MD5
here is the md5 from this online checker http://onlinemd5.com

Re: BOTF All in One installer 1.0.1 (Released 6-12-2017)
crash.log is empty in vanilla and galaxies mod
I tried all these dx files and copied them all to my system32 folder so its not a dx issue.
I also dont have the 1920x1080 patch as i assumed it was that so never installed it on my last installation.
Weird because i did 247 turns no problem and then next minute it went off and when i do continue it crashes same turn. I loaded in 27 turns back and it still crashed that one turn.
So i assumed it was maybe a battle or meeting enemy races, so i loaded new maps did a battle and works fine. met new race and works ok.
Just a random crash.
The only issue i had with event viewer in past hour was a warning for distributed COM which isnt related to the game.

sorry I misunderstood you, I thought you could not even play past turn 1 or load game.
as for galaxy mod it is heavy with code changes and has a tendency to corrupt saved games (also more systems tend to do this). you can keep more saves and maybe go back and hope to find before save got corrupted or try to finish game quicker.

Re: BOTF All in One installer 1.0.1 (Released 6-12-2017)
Okay, so I got it working again!!
What I decided to do is one step short of re-downloading the file.
After uninstalling the mods and tools, I deleted the extracted folder made by the zip file.
Then I went into control panel and uninstalled and reinstalled DirectPlay (Legacy Components).
After that was done, I re-extracted from the zip file, opened the .exe as Admin.
After all the mods were installed (DxWin Fullscreen) in the time it took for Voyager to come back to the Alpha Quadrant , I had DxWin set to Run this program as Administrator (COMPATIBILITY Tab, remember) launched Vanilla and was able to play again! Including battles!
Then promptly got my ass handed to me by Klingons and Ferengi. Damn cheating AI.

Re: BOTF All in One installer 1.0.1 (Released 6-12-2017)
I am having an issue I have had before but cannot find a ready solution this time.
Game (UM5) installs fine, but mouse does not line up on the buttons. I have to hover above and to the left of the buttons in the GUI to actuate them.
Somewhere in the DXwnd there is a setting to correct this, but I seem to be overlooking it at the moment.
May I request a friendly reminder to the location of this solution?
Edit/ update: found it minutes after asking.
Close game
Open DXwnd
Right click desired game
Select modify, then the input tab
Uncheck "correct mouse position"
My apologies for the spam.

Re: BOTF All in One installer 1.0.1 (Released 6-12-2017)
Hi
Absolutely love BoTF - used to play it years ago and so was delighted when I heard it was possible to access it again!
I'm not great with stuff like this, but installed the game the other day and it worked. However, despite having a good laptop now I am quite a number of Turns into the game, the cursor moves very slowly over the map - especially if I make it a 'large' map. It is really struggling to move now - wondered if there is anything anyone can suggest to improve this? Would be very appreciative as it's been great to play the game again!
Thanks
Jack

Did you install "Tools" before/same time installing game?
if not backup your saved game un-install everything then reinstall with "tools"
Tools has a program (DxWnd) that helps with mouse movements in newer operating system. Tools also has option to play game in windowed or fullscreen (fullscreen is Default).
