Re: Supremacy new release

Post by geordie »

I found only one sphere more, but in Mokra system and it looked like they remained in peace, strange. Maybe that sphere was fighting against 5 bcs, but with no effect on both sides, maybe both sides were escaping every turn. Definitely the sphere was stranded. Only my scouts had access there so far.
I think the assimilation should be the priority no. 1 for Borg. They could be dormant for about 250 turns, but it could depend on galaxy size and research rate. In fact I haven't met any cube in last 3-4 games.
I have a question to the screenshot below - is the Borg eliminated or at war? They have at least one sphere or maybe an assimilated system colony somewhere (rather unlikely)

They should not be at peace. The Borg are never at peace with anyone.
You can check their status by going to the Overview in the diplo screen. There should be a red line connecting them.
The Sphere might be retreating; since it is stranded, it will remain in the same sector. At some point fleets of eliminated civs will be disbanded (the code is already there, but we need to check if it will not cause any issues).

I think the assimilation should be the priority no. 1 for Borg. They could be dormant for about 250 turns, but it could depend on galaxy size and research rate. In fact I haven't met any cube in last 3-4 games.
Right now there is only assimilation, yes.
That's roughly how it is working right now, the dormancy period.
I'll have to check why you haven't seen any cubes.

They are eliminated (skull and bones), but for some reason the Status doesn't reflect that. I have checked the code and it seems ok, I'll have to check the diplo screen to see where it is getting its data from.
I'll check the savegame to see if they have any other colony.

I'm curious, if this is turn 342, howcome the last status change with the Borg was 341 turns ago? :???:

It happened two times now, so I attach last save. No error log is created.
This sentence is about what exactly? The Eliminated status of the Borg? I'm asking because the next post has what looks like the same savegame as an attachment, related to a hang.

A kind of endless loop...
Are you still playing the 9nov patch?
Were you involved in any battles? With the Borg?
Is this the turn you eliminated them? If so, that might explain the AtWar/Eliminated discrepancy - it might take ending the turn to update the status.

I am stuck in that endless loop of not resolved combat. It was against the last Borg sphere and I cannot end the turn and progress. I added the 22Nov to that game some 20 turns turns ago. I have been trying that four times now, not two. The sphere has been eliminated and the screen is just from the end of the turn processed and not completed. I saw that there were also 5 friendly cruisers of Mokra involved.

The status 'at war' is always the same for Borg and it always indicates the war from 1st turn even if I met them far later.
I have removed the wrongly placed attachment.

The Borg actually have another ship, a single Probe near Akritiri, also stranded as they have no more colonies.

The Borg are only At War with the Cardassians. The minors they have contact with, they're not. I think I coded it that way intentionally, will have to check. IIRC they don't need to be at war to assimilate systems. Minor civs are irrelevant - if they have something of interest, then they get assimilated.

The hang might have to do with the fact that the Mokra are fighting alongside with the Cards, I think that's an old issue that hasn't been fixed yet - they're probably trying to find a target but they can't.

IIRC the first ship the Borg will try to build (besides Scouts and Assemblers) is a Diamond (Command), so they probably had other fleets that got destroyed?

I haven't met any Diamond in this game. I suppose you can check the Borg fleet in my previous save attached earlier or - if needed - I have more saves, but please indicate which turn it could be.
It was strange for me that the Mokra population dropped drastically, without being assimilated.

You can continue with that game if you don't attack that Sphere - just cancel the move order from your fleet. I just checked and it works.
From what I can tell, yes, it's the Mokra fleet trying to target the Borg. Will see what I can do to fix.
I can confirm that the Borg build Cubes and Diamonds. It's odd that you have only seen them field Spheres - really bad luck?
The Borg are probably trying to assimilate Mokra, but since they don't have enough drones, they're assaulting the system in order to reduce its garrison, until they can assimilate it. With only 1 Sphere though, it'll take them quite some time... it's at 16 pop already.

It's nice to see the Feds colonizing a system across a wormhole

Pick one savegame where you have already met the Borg, and then hit F12 and check all their fleets. It's a cheat!, so if you don't want to do it (reveal everything), just send it to me and I'll check.

The Borg code still needs to be improved, they shouldn't be trying to assimilate with small / Sphere only fleets...
Glad I have your saves to spot these things!

Heh, yea, I guess

I think I've fixed the status issue (AtWar vs Eliminated) - some bad code there prevented the status being updated for the Borg; and also their entire assets from being discarded when they're eliminated.
The last status change turn issue is fixed now.

Did you check the other saves to see if the Borg have built ships other than Spheres? Or can you provide me one such save so that I can check? Thx.

Save 200, before meeting the Borg.
I have quite many saves, starting turn 150.

I have also noticed that despite all filter options in turn summary report are on I haven't been getting notes about completing new research levels and about movements of military ships.

Thnaks, will check it out. Sorry to be a pain, but you wouldn't happen to have one right before eliminating the Borg (destroying Unimatrix?), would you? That would be great to test if the status fix works.
If you do, would you prefer that I post a patch so that you could test that, or attaching it here?

Destroying Unimatrix01 should get you a huge morale boost, and eliminating the Borg should destroy all their remaining asstes.

There never were SitReps about movement of military ships. Well, Troop Transports yes, but not others.
As for research, you mean you are not getting the details dialog? In this pic you are getting the SitRep for research completed in some of your member minors (which does not have a details dialog, but that's intended).

Using your turn 200 save, I have checked that
- research SitReps with details are being displayed @TL5 (and @TL6 with the turn 231 save); do you have a save where it can be reproduced?
- SitReps for Troop Transports (and Scouts, Surveyors, Colony ships, etc) are being produced
- the Borg contact turn / last status change is fixed
- the OB issue is fixed
- the Zakdorn have pounded one of your colonies to the stone age (still need to fix a tiny issue)
- a couple other details have been fixed

Haven't managed to fix the combat hang yet.

Do you have a save where you are about to eliminate the Borg, so that I can check the Borg Eliminated/AtWar issue?

Noticed another issue in the turn 231 save. The Zakdorn (which you managed to get to Friendly after the pounding), declare war on you right when your envoy is arriving at their homesystem... :???:

Finally managed to fix a(nother internal) bug that was causing the game to hang, so there should be a new release soon! Will try to address the Dominion buildings asap so they make it to the release.
