Civilization Series Favourite Scifi/Fantasy (incl Star Trek) TC Scenarios & Mods Hunt

Post by Blake00 »

Hey guys :)

I’m on the Hunt for big Civilization game series total conversion mods & scenarios with a particular focus on Civ2 & Civ3 (but am now expanding to Civ4, 5, 6 & spinoffs) relating to a whole bunch of my favourite fantasy & scifi movie/TV/gaming franchises (including Star Trek!). Been posting in a few different Civ forums and getting great feedback, plus whenever someone has told me about an awesome scenario that’s disappeared over the years I’ve managed to track it down and bring it back from the dead to CivFinatics or ModDB hosting, so helping me has helped the community. Hell in some rare cases I’ve even filled a gap by making the scenario myself haha!

Anyway I figured it was finally time to hit some of the other communities out there for help too (since fans of Civ and these franchises are everywhere haha). Many have already been found so make sure you check my list in the link below BEFORE making suggestions to save yourself time & effort lol!

https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/ ... mm.657805/

At this stage I’m looking for Civ scenarios relating to Mars Colonization, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, Command & Conquer, Red Alert, Dune, Master of Magic, Sid Meier's Colonization, Master of Orion, Doom, Babylon 5, Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate, Fallout, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, The Elder Scrolls, Warcraft and Heroes of Might & Magic.

If you can’t help me then maybe my list will still help you find something cool! :)

I know I had a Dune scenario for the Mac version of Civilization II. Unfortunately my PowerMac 6500/300 is dead (RIP 1997-2009), and I have no idea where it came from.
I actually thought it was part of the official scenario packs until this moment. I can confirm that there is one for Civ2, but it might be Mac-only.

Funny thing you should mention Dune, I'm reading the book right now, though it looks like I won't finish it before it's due back at the library. I'm only on page 450/923 for the large type version.

Oooh thank you for your reply. I suspect due to the way Civ2 was designed that scenarios were transferable between Macs and PCs. Someone else has sent me a Dune Civ2 scenario he found in an Apolyton backup. It's nothing amazing looking but is interesting. Do you think this was the one you played or a different one?

I have no idea. It has been too long and as I did not know anything about Dune when I had the Mac I did not play it more than once or twice.

Does the scenario intro talk about spice and something along the line of "He who controls the spice controls Dune"? That's all I remember.

Yup it does so its probably the same one then... here's what it says when you start:

^^'Dune the Battle for Arrakis'
^ 'The House that collects the most spice and colonys will control Dune'.
^ Emperor Frederick IV
^
^ Who ever controls Dune controls the spice Who ever controls the spice
^ controls the Empire.
^
^ Three Houses fight for control of Dune who will win?
^ All three Houses are almost even, dont play the Fremen

Big update as I widened my search to get help from more communities out there and had some AWESOME responses from people so many thanks to everyone who's contacted me publicly and privately! I'm also starting to look more at newer Civilization games (4-6) and finding some good stuff. Someone pointed out that I should include a The Elder Scrolls (Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim etc) section and gave me several Civ scenarios for it I'd never heard of! I'm a huge TES fan so how could I say no! People also gave me some Warcraft scenarios so yup, we've got a new Warcraft section on the list too, hell maybe I should look at Starcraft while I'm at it too lol!

Note: Project links over in original CivFinatics thread (link in top post) as for some strange reason most forums don't like people coming in and posting 100s of offsite links lol. ;)

List updates...

- Have added PaulHeron's Babylon 5 Modpack scenario to the list.
- Have added AltF18's Azeroth (Warcraft) scenario that axx told me about to the list.
- Have added EvilKnevil's Dune: The Battle for Arrakis scenario that axx told me about to the list.
- Have added NathanDawson's Battle For Adoij (Star Wars) scenario that axx told me about to the list (I actually already host it myself on my Star Wars scenario ModDB page but forgot lol!).

I'm just finding it interesting that you seem to be going through a similar phase that I went through in the early 2000's. Utterly addicted to Civilization II scenarios and snapping up all the ones you can find.
On the one hand you have nearly 20 years more time for content to accumulate. On the other hand, Civilization II is long past it's heyday and a lot of sites and content is lost due to the transitory nature of the internet and people needing to pay for hosting.
Heck, I had trouble with dead links in 2006 as people had moved on to Civ IV.

Yeah that's the sad part.. so much from the good old days is lost. However thanks to webarchive I've managed to find backups of a lot of those old sites including their downloads so I've been able to find things that people haven't seen in 20 years. Been quite a fun treasure hunt!

Do you still have your collection from those days?

No, but there might be a way to salvage it. My Mac died in 2009, and I never did anything with the 100gb hard drive.
If I were to put it in an enclosure and hook it up to a machine running Linux it might be possible to extract the collection.
The only issue is that I don't have an external enclosure, and the computer I dual-booted to Linux died. All my current computers are running Windows, although I'm thinking of trying to put Linux on one of my XP laptops.
I've got the old Mac in a junk pile in my mom's basement where I salvage stuff for parts.

Darn.. oh well if you ever gain access to the drive and your collection, let me know! :) As I'd love to see a list of what you've got. Maybe some rare long lost gems!

You wouldn't happen to know a way to access an HFS+ formatted Mac hard drive (100gb, Mac OS 8.6, circa 1999 or 2000) using a Windows computer if I were to put it in an enclosure? All the solutions I heard back in the day involved Linux. It's also got several partitions.
