Economies of Star Trek

Post by Axis »

Some thoughts about the economies of Star Trek:

They did ruin the Borg with invention of the queen, now it's almost a good empire, unoriginal, there's no mystery any more, no longer the ultimate communists of the galaxy.

The klingons should not use money either, but they would have an economy, some kind of trade of goods.

The ferengi nailed it, it could be explored more in depth, with stock analysts and such, everything related to capitalism.
And, the need for precious metals, diamonds and such in their trade.

The federation's economy has been explained, although in a vague way, they do not use money, but when dealing with others, they do.
Maybe a half-socialism of some kind would be more clear for them.
With private farms and properties but state companies, which build the ships for example.

The cardassians would not use hard currency at all, only digital currency.
Impress the Empress.

I like the BORG Queen. She gave the BORG direction and a face. It made them less mysterious, though.

I think The Orville explained the credit system better than Star Trek ever did ^^

They always seemed to avoid the "money topic" for some reason. They probably feared to be labeled communists or something.

I've thought that TNG was communistic since they first talked about not having money back when the show was airing.
TOS had "credits" mentioned in several episodes, mostly the ones with Mudd. TNG apparently didn't use credits anymore, and seemed like communism to me.
