sounds like your system does not support 1366 x 768 or you are using dual monitors

read complete topic for dual monitor issues

How to check if resolution is supported by BOTF
viewtopic.php?p=53092#p53092

also check "Windows scale" setting

I am having an issue, and it's likely known, where when I load/start a game the galaxy/tactical screen is boxed in on the edges. From the top it obscures 3/4 of the TURN button and from the left it just begins to obscure the text of TOTAL CREDITS, CREDITS PER TURN, etc.

Interestingly, if I print screen this when I load the png I took, it all looks normal in the screenshot.

I've tried a number of options in DxWnd under the Video tab to see if I can correct it that way, to no avail.

Any thoughts?

Edit: Just to clarify, my Windows Scale is at 100% and below is my Video tab settings in DxWnd:

to be honest no idea, if it looks normal in screenshot can you take a picture with your phone?

are you using windowed or fullscreen?
did you check if you system supports installed resolution? what resolution did you install?
does this happen on mods or just vanilla or on what version is this happening.

is this installer 2.0.0 or 2.0.1 beta?

but I have never heard of this issue before.

Version installed is 2.0.0
Installed resolution was 1920x1080
My system supports that resolution, though my desktop resolution is 2566x1440
This is happening on Vanilla, though I did modify some ship stats in UE.
Here is close-up shot with my phone:

that is an odd widescreen resolution, 2566 x 1440 = 1920 x 1077 (not 1080) so aspect ratio is not matching. So part of game is off screen?

you might have to play in windowed mode.

you might also try to make a custom resolution with your video software if it allows.

Running it Windowed fixes the issue. It lacks that nostalgic feel, but it's better than the alternative.

I appreciate you taking the time to work with me on this.

you could try the beta installer, it uses proxy files created by dxwnd

This issue might be solvable with the same settings causing my old stretch problem for 800x600 GUI in 16x9 (I had to select 'keep aspect ratio').

E.g. in Windows 10 right-click anywhere on the desktop:

Check mark is german for 'keep aspect ratio' for the problem at hand you might need one of the other options?

OT: I used ini TURNSTATUS=ON to crash BotF using ddraw proxy. It did not cause the same after-crash lag issue for me as with winmm proxy.

Note: DCER & me removed codes of this log feature for fix patches, so Turnstatus=ON can crash ECM and other mods using those patches.
I don't know how many bugs is too many but that point is reached somewhere before however many in BotF is.

it might help but I doubt it, what make no sense is pixel 0 - 0 (upper left pixel of game) is not in upper left of screen. It is like his monitor has a boarder that cover part of screen. plus when screenshot is fully displayed (no error) his video software is placing correctly but monitor does not have correct 0 - 0?

starting to wonder if this is a tv used as a monitor?

Maybe not, but some of those windows OS/graphic driver shenanigans are counterintuitive (one of the settings can stretch the display beyond screen borders, displaying only the center area).

You can test said effects with tesktop background pictures (not the same menu):

Just to add clarification I have a one monitor setup. It's a Samsung S32D850 32-inch monitor.

My graphics adapter is the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU.

I've tried "keep aspect ratio" and "adaptive ratio" within DxWnd.

I've also changed my desktop resolution to 1920x1080 to match the installed resolution I chose for the mods.

I think the oddball default resolution of 2560x1440 Windows 10 says is optimal for my hardware is likely what is causing this issue.

I cannot find any choice of options within DxWnd to make even the slightest adjustment within the game's borders.

btw: I am using the new beta version of the installer now with the newer DxWnd.

I just figured out a solution while dinking around in the Nvidia Control Panel.

Setting the Scaling to Aspect Ratio specifically on the GPU (it defaults to Display) corrected the problem.

Yes, the OS / graphic driver setting for full screen apps takes precedence over settings within DxWnd (so 'keep aspect ratio' within DxWnd full screen is pointless?).

It might still work with those using only an onboard GPU, like Intel.
