Is there a way to fix the camera on the TOP view?

Hi all,

Just a quick one, I notice in every battle, even if you set the camera to top, it go to a close up view, which half the time, you can't see anything going on, just fleeting glimpses of weapons or ships flying by
I can sometimes get around that by hitting the enter or spacebar key (I think that's it), then it pops back to top
But more often than not it doesn't work.
Is there no way to set it permanently to be a particular view?
