Extending the HobFile reader of UE, I found that there are some HOB files with broken switch list.
So far I identiefied hs_a.hob and ks_a.hob in latest vanilla installer 1366 x 768
There the switch list overlaps with last texture entry. Therefore I guess that issue is related to the 5 textures used.
Original files only use 4 textures and have no overlapping.
I can't tell what relevance it has - yet I don't even know what this switch list is for.

I would guess original models for testing of special damage textures dhs_b.gif
also don't forget special rh2_a.hob with 4 textures 3 normal + scar.gif listed.

I did a little more exploring and this is strange,
I know we have made some changes to hobs to prevent crashes but don't remember this change. and to me it also looks wrong.

For Vanilla, BOP, ECM, FMPM and UM5, the only affected files are: MUM, GALM, UCW have no overlappings.
UDM and UDML are missing one texture.lst entry for happy_a.hob 0x148, but have no overlappings either. AAM has some possibly broken *boom.hob files with excessive data. In addition there are alot broken "x" textures referenced, that probably were shared and got deleted at some point by removing ships with some earlier version of UE.
In addition in Vanilla and most mods there are some models with 0 model size radius.

here is one to add to your list for saved game editing,
new Asteroid Belt Dilithium and Asteroid code changes UE flags these on integrity check and removes trait
