Game crashes after accepting membership offers

This is a new one for me...


I was playing as the Feds last night, and immediately encountered the Bynars, and then the Halkans the following turn. Both races offered to join me as soon as I met them. However, if I accept either membership proposal, the game then crashes when I hit end turn. If I reject or ignore their proposal(s), the game runs just fine.

Any ideas as to what's going on here? I'd just done a new/clean install (of both the base game and UM5) right before starting this game, using the installer on the main download page.

Thanks thunderchero, I'll give the beta installer a try. In the meantime, I've attached the save-game file.


EDIT: Yep, the game no longer crashes when I accept their membership proposals. Interesting. Well I'm glad that did the trick, even though I'm still puzzled as to what the problem is/was. Thanks again!

glad it fixed issue, several errors were corrected in beta,
1. minor race lists did not match and was corrected
2. several integrity check fixed
3. SCT re-called some patches that were applied to UM5
4. all missing images properly added

Good to know. On the surface of things, #1 would seem to be the most likely issue/fix, but I'm guessing #2 or #3 could just as easily have resolved whatever the problem was.

Hi Martok, I hope you are doing well.

Glad to hear thunderchero fixed the issue in UM5.5, but note there is still an unknown, rare condition for the problem in vanilla.
Next time I encounter it, I'll run some code tests.

Plus there is still a sporadic fault with failed first contact, when entering claimed, but empty sectors of unknown empires.

Appreciate the heads-up on the rare/sporadic issues you listed. If it looks I've perhaps come across them, I'll try to remember and post about it here (and upload a save if possible).
