Can you say something about the pros and cons of Infinite vs the New Horizons mod for Stellaris?

I don't know how many bugs is too many but that point is reached somewhere before however many in BotF is.

I can't as I've played neither haha.. am just watching from afar with future plans to play after I get a PC upgrade.
Meanwhile Dev diary 7 is out talking about planned fixes and feature additions such as more ship choices per race, better UI scaling, and playable minor races.

And dev diary 8 is out too showcasing some of the best user made mods out there adding new planets, buildings, missions, and more lore friendly or sandbox galaxy maps.

I really like the art style in Infinite. For a game I mean. Makes me drool thinking about something similar for Supremacy
Re: Star Trek: Infinite - BOTF successor? Possible
Same! Think I said it earlier in the thread but it totally reminds me of playing good old Star Trek Final Unity!
Haven't looked for a while and sure enough more dev logs have arrived in orbit...

A few months later and it already became real quiet on that game.
I got curious and checked some news. They seem to have lost most of their staff.

Edit: in 2020 it seems there were 75 people working at Nimble Giant, and given they are working on other games as well, I guess there aren't many left to work on ST Infinite. And it is not the only studio the embracer group cut investments.

"Embracer Group cancelled 29 games and laid off 1,387 people in late 2023"
"Unfortunately, the cancellation of these projects is just the tip of the iceberg for Embracer Group, with around 8% of its workforce – 1,387 employees – losing their jobs as part of the company’s sweeping restructure program."

Interesting. I was just thinking about this myself and wondering what ya'll were up to.
If I had to guess, Steam (allowing?) so many games on their platform has just flooded the market. Gone are the days (90s) when about 20-40 games came out a year and they were by big studios and we got 10-15 keepers out of that 20-40. Big Box games. Different ways of using a PC to game, combined with your favorite IP. I think we are going through the game equivalency of the airline deregulation. It will take decades for the consolidation and small developers to die off and for a few quality big development houses to re-emerge and leave attention room for enough small indie people to thrive.
In the mean time, you get many of these smaller studios just dying off as there is not enough room for their games to get attention on the app stores and obviously with no ability to "advertise" in box retail like the old days. Used to be we walked through Best Buy or Frys and looked for the best games and read the cover...only to play that game for 20 years.
Here's lookin at you BOTF.

Re: Star Trek: Infinite - BOTF successor? Possible
The company finally released a statement on their site in the last 24 hours to say there will be no further updates and the game is done.
I never purchased it, but I feel like BOTF is more than enough to meet my needs. I don't really play modern games so BOTF doesn't feel dated to me at all, and I encounter bugs very rarely even though I'm playing vanilla and not ECM.

Reading into this(steam comments, Reddit and anywhere else) it seem like there hasn't been any updates for awhile; including layoffs. I never bought it but did buy a few DLCs from stellaris(just for the star trek mod new civilizations) however they stellaris base bones lost there way and don't play nor buy anymore DLCs.

Yeah, thunderchero fixed the vanilla ships with the hob/LOD fix, so stability should be better than most mods (about max one crash per 300 turns played).

Re: Star Trek: Infinite - BOTF successor? Possible
Yeah, I read that as well. I'm super-bummed by the news, but not at all surprised. Everyone could see what was coming, especially after the developer was forced into layoffs by their parent company.thunderchero wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 1:07 pm here is statement link

So much wasted potential. Sigh.

Better ask about the source code now, before it becomes a repeat of BotF...
