but please turn those bonuses off can't even see where klingons or romulans are, even when I zoom in.
Lol @ bonuses yeah pretty much every system

Consistency is its own beast, but I think I am starting to understand finally how the values work, after 15 years, I just need more time

this one not so much, looks more like a beauty shot of a galaxy rather than dorsal view ie. kinda sideways?

I really like this one, but feels like the core needs to be more dense

these are all different settings, documenting them for future reference. Is that ok or do you want me to stop? Here's the last 2 and netting 25-30 minors so I think I will stick with these numbers for now

with that many system you should be getting 30 every time with the right code.
as for documenting your value would only be good if other variables are exact same and not many would use your size map due to turn lag.

Spiral Galaxy Analysis

Post by Tethys »

The main contributing factor to turn lag is the AI and its constant changing of task assignments, the scanning of every sector available within a ship's range, and yes.. map size larger makes it worse. But I have been able to cut down significantly the turn times from earlier versions of GALM to something a bit more manageable by simply reducing the ships ranges across the board. High turn games will always suffer from turn lag until AI tasks can be cleaned up a little to get rid of the stuff that's causing the slowdowns. I have had very large map games go for a while (almost 100 turns) without much slowdown, but as soon as 2 majors meet it starts to slow down exponentially.

The only values that matter for spiral that I have seen are:
Major
Minor
Arm Width

Inner Arc
Middle Arc
Outer Arc

Axes: These appear to calculate the galaxy in a spiralized shape (duhhh) but what I mean by that is by increasing the values it actually grows the galaxy - but not as one would expect - the galaxy rotates as it is grown. Both values have great effect on minor race count. Too low numbers and you have too few minors. Too high numbers and your galaxy is elliptical not spiral. Having one higher and one lower seems to have the nicest effect with regards to shape. The first value seems to have a better effect on minor race count (higher) but also causes a larger galaxy that sometimes "hangs off" the screen.

Arm width does just that, adjust the width of all arms.

Arm arc multipliers: Also rotate as they are adjusted. Inner arc seems to not matter, Ive set it to 0 without much of an effect on the galaxy shape. As the middle and outer arcs are increased they also seem to rotate in a counter clockwise direction > higher numbers spread the arms out from the core more but also have rotational effect.

do you have the patch from MUM 30 minors on many?
as long as you have enough system you will get 30 minors on many every time.
it is in latest MUM patch folder in installer

I have applied it now, the last value was not vanilla in my install. I'm getting consistently between 28-30 minors with patch. Minors appear to cluster in the center with some more pronounced in the left side on irregular galaxy. Have not tested medium and small yet.

yes and no that is patch without values and minor race density fix minors shift right, (but that is map size dependent).

But I am not sure if UE set both max table and min table
subs 004B22A0 and 004B2350
I set both the same and fix shared values same as UE does
if you want 15(few),25 (some),30 (many)
just replace code area (full sub-section) with vanilla code and patch should read no conflicts
more than likely you are reading conflicts due to you already changed minors in UE

Yes, the value for minor race density was altered. It was the only conflict for this patch. Some reason I had 0.08 when it should be 0.2 I changed it back to 0.2 and noticed the minors increased in density. I then applied the patch to see if anything changes but everything seemed normal. That explains why the minors are kinda off a little.
