tbh, you should've written more about (insta) watercooling in your first post. Then this whole air flow pressure/whatever topic would've made much more sense.

At the point you listed the specs, I already was through my thought process. I thought that everything is bought anyway and there's not much to do here. Wanna throw some corsair insta-wc into your case? why not - many people do this nowadays. Should work.

In planning phase, I would've thought about the radiator and if it would fit into the case. Well, anyway. gl with that stuff now.

Well, I am a novice when it come to builds imho. I have put together a few systems but nothing of this level.

as to the radiator I could have re-drilled the case and moved it down a 1/4 - 1/2 inch (it is that close) I read cooler would fit in any 120mm vent, they were wrong.

also with the poor design of the v3 case for the upper vents (interference with memory latches and amd plug) this is why I decided to get new case. also specs stated fan would fit in upper vent. (I found review 5 pages back about latch problem) my mistake there not reading more.

I have tried to do my research, but it is tough on some things like that.

I do appreciate all the help all of you have given me here. And hope to have no further problems and start posting some images mid next week.

Looks good. I see the power supply is located at the bottom (or will be). I personally like the ps at the bottom but not many cases place it there. Good luck with the rest of the build and I hope you enjoy your new rig!

That was one of the requirements for case.

I was able to get most of the wiring done, but need to get an extension cable and a splitter cable for fans.

after that I need to make some custom intake air filters tomorrow.

I wish I could have done better with wiring management, but I think it is clean.

Yikes! That's...disturbingly impressive.

Wow 9 years 3 months and still running. That is a record for me.

But last night while doing a compile she overheated and shutdown twice. So I did a good cleaning of cooler and all fans. Cooler was dirty but seen it worse.

after cleaning I did a test compile, about half way though core temp spiked for a few sec at 161 c then cooled right back in good range.

I could try to put some fresh thermal grease on, but think it is time to start thinking about new system.

any thoughts on processor I should be looking for?

If buying a new one, I'd check on the AMD Ryzen 5 7600 with integrated graphics. It's brand new and the integrated AMD graphics nowadays are quite capable. Without having read any technical reviews, I guess it'll be the most reasonable offer.

On the other hand, myself I am very happy with my 2nd hand i5-9600K I'm running. Just keep care it is Windows 11 compatible.

Without having read any technical reviews, I guess it'll be the most reasonable offer.

Having checked a few benchmark reviews it turns out they crippled the iGPU to basic office use. So without bying a discrete graphics card, you actually go better with the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G.

9 years is amazing.

I could write pages (you know me ^^) about what's going on right now wrt hardware.

But first things first: what's your budget? What kind of programs are you using/planning to use? (general use-cases)

For AM5 you pretty much pay the early adopter fee. And since it's a new platform/socket it comes with new sets of problems. In recent news there were some burnt out CPUs probably due to miscommunication between board partners and AMD. Also the board prices for AM5 are completely out of whack. Not just that but they've moved cheap parts and features I'd consider basic like the error LEDs to high end boards now. Since RAM-training can take a couple of minutes with these new boards I wouldn't want to skimp out on that one, though.

The market is a bit of a mess. Storage/RAM can be had for cheap, though, as manufacturers are reportedly sitting on huge stockpiles. One TB of storage can be had for as cheap as 50€. Same goes for 16GB RAM kits.

AM4/DDR4 would be an amazing budget option here. It's EOL, though.
