Galaxy class and variants
Hi Everyone,
I was asked where to find a good version of the Galaxy X class model, The only one I found was the old one I created for AAM that the nacells were very blocky.
so I started with the Galaxy class and will build new Galaxy X and Nebula class off of this model.
post updated with ship pack info
Here is ship pack

Re: Galaxy class and variants
Great start!
What I'm not so happy with is that the nacelle ends still look a little bulky. To my personal impression, I think they need to be a little more rounded.

Re: Galaxy class and variants
I wondered how the Galaxy class models of the different mods compare to each other. Therefore I created a little comparison map from ingame tech database:
What happened to ECM palettes?

Looks good to me, or at least in my latest install.
ECM uses an enhanced texture and palette and might have not been updated in your installed version?

Re: Galaxy class and variants
It's same for ECMS of my recent full reinstall of BOTF_Top_10_mods_2.0.3b 1366x768, downloaded 12 Mar 2024.thunderchero wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2024 8:19 am ECM uses an enhanced texture and palette and might have not been updated in your installed version?
And in addition to the Galaxy and Galaxy-X class also the Nebula class and the Sovereign are affected.

Re: Galaxy class and variants
Yeah, in your pic it looks like a glitch.
But, same as thunderchero, in my ECM install (2.0.3b 800x600) Galaxy, Galaxy-X, Nebula and Sovereign look good (like your vanilla -> you used the cosmetic texture patch for vanilla -> original is BOP/FMPM).
I like the improved ECM textures by thunderchero/Jeremy, just the Galaxy neck area near the torpedo launcher looks a bit too dark, plus we need windows to admire the carpet....
I don't know how many bugs is too many but that point is reached somewhere before however many in BotF is.

Re: Galaxy class and variants
The extra 'bridge-wings' pulse phasers or the extra phaser coves on top of the nacelles?
Also the ugly extra wings on the bottom of the pylons are missing - perhaps for the better.
I REALLY love it. The design details and variations of the 'turbo' phaser look great!

ECM Galaxy texture glitch: Where the Galaxy-X neck torpedo area is a bit too dark the Galaxy lost any dark color in the forward direction (looks strange):

even after adding preview with 0.7.2 (works on 0.7.2) new dev (branch Lexicon: optionally keep excessive text data) displays preview image of largest ship tga

Re: Galaxy class and variants
here is texture adjustment (hh1_a.gif and palette) if you like it, I will add it for next updateSpocks-cuddly-tribble wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 11:12 am ECM Galaxy texture glitch: Where the Galaxy-X neck torpedo area is a bit too dark the Galaxy lost any dark color in the forward direction (looks strange):
edit; if you find some time could you add some "tags" to the ECM patches?
possible tags are;
TAG: fix
TAG: enhancement
TAG: other (default displays when "other" selected with no tag)

Re: Galaxy class and variants
It might be my cubic programmer eyes, but to me the TV version look much more streamlined.thunderchero wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 8:50 amnot sure if it was image angle but to me nacelles look very round. lol
And I think that is cause the nacelles have a little bow. Their sides don't look perfectly straight to me.
Your model however increases nacelle width straight from front to end, with only the edges and corners rounded.
Another fixed issue. I accidentally missed the file extension dot when I refactored some code.thunderchero wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 2:45 pm Note; when creating ship pack I could not add/view new preview images with latest dev version.
This one I can not reproduce. Note that with UE dev version the preview file names changed.thunderchero wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 2:45 pm even after adding preview with 0.7.2 (works on 0.7.2) new dev (branch Lexicon: optionally keep excessive text data) displays preview image of largest ship tga
The old names are still supported, but with the new version you can also select other image formats including .gif and .tga files.
To not conflict with present GIF and TGA files like bio.tga or the many GALM energy structures, I added a '-hob' suffix to newly added preview images.
Therefore old UE versions won't detect the changed preview image. The other way around by my testing however still works.
When no preview image is found or it can't be read, it is defaulted to the largest available TGA image.
P.S.: Awesome progress on the Galaxy X class.

I never noticed this before,
shading is lost as you zoom out
lower hull shaded (close up) same position only zoomed out lower hull lost shading

Might be one of the HOB model LOD distance values
