Problems with editing new stars (oh.. no not again :)

Post by Saragota »

I was realy hapy when i read this:

75x55 is pretty stable each time ive played it...

and i startet some testgames with 87x 65 ..works fine. the main problem was the hudely space betwen the stars. so i decided to add more stars
so i made a quick reserche for helpful topiks:
'' Star Frequency
'' Random questions from a (relative) newbie
etc.
1. i followed the given instructions
2. changing the reference values?( means map size, min. empire distance ??)and density
>--thundercheros larger map hex txt isn't avialebel any more?-- can't download it from www.4shared.-- said that the donloadlink is incorect<

3. and that's the problem:

4B068F -> cmp word ptr [esp+78h+var_20], 0E6h
''ok. found the offsets...

But what i have to do now?? change 0xE6 with this 0E6h?

I need a detailed solution/ (für die ganz dummen) ''
thx in advance
(german solution would be very welcome) :)

those values can be found here

https://www.armadafleetcommand.com/botf ... ial-for-ue

but I am unclear what exactly your problem is?

I think you want more systems on map if so you need to add more star names to the starname.bin. for a map that size you would need a min of 33% of total sectors to fill up a 87 x 65 map (5655 sectors = 1885 star names)

vanilla starname.bin only has 297 systems names you would need to add 1500 - 1800 new names to populate map properly. that would still look sparse.

BTW are you using UE to edit map size?

No, the reference values are explicitly named in: Star Frequency (first post includes all info you need)

First of all, you must learn how to use a hex-editor (there should be german tutorials on the web -> google).

Then just go to the addresses (0xAFA49 & 0xAFA94) and increase both values by the same amount (default: 0xE6 = 230 dec) and note thunderchero's comment (assuming no reference-value/density editing issue due to a lack of hex-knowledge).
I don't know how many bugs is too many but that point is reached somewhere before however many in BotF is.

Beware that a map this large you will get crashes if you click too soon during the race intro into the game, the engine needs to build such a massive map. Also, dont expect to play more than 30 or so turns, the time in between increases exponentially and games are usually unfinishable. Thats why I normally play on Med or Small maps adjusted so they are bigger than vanilla large.

ok. i have read Star Frequency again, but i don't no what it means >reference value<Bezugsgröße??
(kurzes deutsches Stichwort wäre sehr freundich)
