Galaxy area limited (take 2)

Post by Ferengi Rule 34 »

This looks similar to the previous "galaxy area limited" thread, but I tried running the resolution patch and there was no difference.

When I'm looking at the small map, the entire galaxy screen area is used:

But when I go to the large map, it's only using about 2/3 of the space, with large areas on the sides unused:

Environment:
Windows 10 (I think it's 22H2)
DirectPlay is turned on
native desktop resolution is 1600x900
1366x768 true color is supported at 60hz

What I did:
Used BOTF_Top_10_Mods_2.0.3
Installed tools
Moved the "dx proxy files" in DxWND tool folder to C:\
Re-ran BOTF_Top_10_Mods_2.0.3
Installed vanilla with 1366x768 resolution and picked the third option ("if you plan to use DxWND GUI...")

I see the issue with the large map not filling the space using the vanilla desktop shortcut and when running DxWND as admin from the DxWND fullscreen folder.

What I did next:
I made copies of the stbof.res, alt.res and trek.exe file from the vanilla folder and copied them to a backup folder
I used WinRAR to extract the stbof.res file to a stbof folder in the vanilla folder
I ran bofrespatch from its folder in tools
specified C:\botf\vanilla\trek.exe
C:\botf\vanilla\stbof
1366x768
and then hit the patch button. The logging showed up in the patch application window with no errors and a blank windows command screen with the bofrespatch title also came up. Neither closed automatically or gave any indication it had finished.

Hit 'quit' button on the bofrespatch application
Copied the vanilla stbof.res file to the "add files" folder in the tools folder
Copied all of the files in the vanilla stbof folder to the "mod" folder in the "add files" folder
Double-clicked on the "add" batch file
Copied the stbof.res file in the "add files" folder back to the vanilla folder

Tried running the vanilla desktop icon and the DxWND application as admin from the dxwnd_fullscreen folder.
The full map is still not using all of the available space.

I think there's probably something very obvious I'm missing with running the bofrespatch application, but I haven't been able to figure it out :(

This was intended, BOTF has issues generating galaxy types if map is not 4:3

if you are wanting to only use irregular type and fill area you would need to first change galaxy sizes with UE before running bofrespatch

note bofrespatch does not edit any stbof.res file (it only needs to read them to get correct values) after bofrespatch reads files you can delete them.

edit here is link for basic map generation editing
https://www.armadafleetcommand.com/botf ... ial-for-ue

as for sizes to use, to fill area examples (height 50% of width)
30 x 15
26 x 13
20 x 10
